SRDC's Communication Specialist, Sheila Crowley, spent Wednesday morning taking part in the Reality Check at MCC School. Students from Fulda High School as well as Murray County Central High School were present for the activity. Each was assigned an occupation along with the monthly take-home amount. They played plinko to determine if they remained single or were married and then picked up a duck which dictated how many children they had. From there, students made their way around the tables filling in their bank form with debits relating to childcare, groceries, furniture, clothing, medical/dental expenses, transportation, housing, insurance, communications, and incidentals. One of the stations was stopping at the bank to write out a check. The simulation allowed the students to learn the costs involved and perhaps provide a 'Reality Check' on the everyday cost of living.
