EARTH DAY SPOTLIGHT: SRDC’S JASON WALKER FEATURED ON THE OUTDOOR MINIMALIST PODCAST In celebration of Earth Day 2025, SRDC’s Community Development Director, Jason Walker, joined The Outdoor Minimalist Podcast for a special episode focused on the economic impact of renewable energy in rural Minnesota. Jason discusses how wind and solar energy are generating major returns for Southwest Minnesota counties—not only through tax revenues and lease payments to landowners, but also by creating construction jobs and funding public infrastructure projects like broadband expansion. “Our region is the supply side of the energy transition,” Walker explains. “And for us, renewable energy is another crop—it’s a way to make money, support families, and strengthen our communities.” From dispelling myths about clean energy to highlighting new opportunities, this Earth Day episode is a powerful reminder of how rural areas like ours are helping build a more sustainable—and economically resilient—future. 🎧 Listen now:
