Julie Buffie, a Chicago native, is the proud owner and operator of Falls Café, located in Redwood Falls. Julie has spent her entire life in the restaurant industry, from working in fast food to fine dining. She even owned a French restaurant in Buffalo, MN.

During college, Julie studied International Relations and German and spent time in Germany as part of an immersion program. Despite never intending to work in the food industry, it allowed her to raise her children while staying involved in their lives.

In 2003, Julie and her family moved to Redwood Falls, where she and a business partner purchased a Country Kitchen franchise in 2005. In 2013, Julie bought out her partner and continued to run the restaurant until 2023 when she decided to drop the franchise and create The Falls Café. By doing so, she could incorporate her love for the Minnesota prairie into her menu and interior design choices.

Falls Café offers a diverse menu that includes breakfast, lunch, and supper, as well as a wide variety of coffees, drinks, and alcoholic beverages. Julie enjoys experimenting with new dessert options, including truffles and different chocolate desserts, which were a part of her Valentine’s menu. The café also provides "dirty soda," where customers can add their preferred flavor to soda water. The Falls Café provides to-go orders, Door Dash delivery services, and in-house private parties.

Julie takes pride in her sit-down restaurant and the service it provides to the community. She enjoys working side-by-side with her employees and takes great pride in her community involvement.

She credits the Southwest Regional Development Commission for their assistance in obtaining financial support before and during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped sustain her business.

Julie finds it very rewarding to see her ideas come to fruition. As an entrepreneur, she sees herself potentially helping with other business development down the road. Her advice to fellow entrepreneurs is to persevere and not give up, even when it's challenging to be their boss.

Julie believes every business is unique, and the personality of Falls Café comes from her creative nature, including the little storefront she added to the restaurant offering up specialty items. She is proud of the relationships she has built with her little café and looks forward to continuing this tradition.

The Falls Café is open Sunday-Tuesday from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday-Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Friday-Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner all day.
